London Collections

London Collections is a showcase of the best of British 2015 spring/summer menswear collections and as always it's not just the catwalk that catches the eye. Here are a few of the best streetstyle looks from this week. Enjoy!

Plain White Tee

The most versatile and essential basic of your wardrobe is a plain white Tee. It goes amazingly well with everything. A plain white Tee is cool and it's a piece that's able to be worn any day of the year, in any season. So consider the white Tee as an investment piece, although finding the perfect one is not as easy as one would think. It's all about choosing the right cut and fabric for your body. Personally I would go for a Tee in a more slouchy style; perfect with a skinny jeans and black jacket. Keeping it simple is the best thing you can do!

Iconic Superga

An Italian icon for over 100 years, the classic Superga sneaker is pretty much the perfect blend of utility and understated design. And now they are the musthave trainers for this summer. Apparently. Like many other sneakers. Missed this canvas tennis shoe trend a bit but the fun part is that I did wear them back in the early days. In vintage green to be precise. And if you think about it, they are comfortable and perfect for a fun and fashionable look. What do you think, has the Superga sneaker defied trends and stood the test of time?

MMM

I am normally not so keen on the Maison Martin Margiela collections. To say the least. The label loves to experimentate and so their clothes always have too many tweaks. Not my cup of tea. But their resort 2015 collection provides hope; most of the items are actually wearable but of course still with this typical Margiela touch. Neu Minimalism is the new black. Or whatever. Anyway, bet it will not take long before the copies will appear at the high street chains.

Culottes

Culottes are officially the new musthave pants for this season. Eh you mean that old-fashioned split skirt our mothers used to wear long time ago...? Yep, that's the one. According to the runways the culottes have proven to be the trend to try, but how to wear them in a fashionable way?
First things first, find a pair that hits midcalf. No longer, no shorter. Pair the the wide-legged cropped pants with a cool basic like a sweater or a sheer blouse and heels. Although I prefer sneakers. So, are you ready for the return of the culottes?

Shower slides

Okay, let's just say we didn't see this one coming. Adidas shower slides are having a moment. Really. The most coolest girls are picking up this wacky new trend we normally see only at the swimming pool showers or campsites. And now these navy and blue striped slides are popping up on Instagram and in fashion shoots too. Since last summer already the slides are now being looked at in a completely different light and became actually laid-back cool. Well, they are super comfy that's for sure and will cost you only about €40. And if  the fashionable way fails you can always wear them in the shower. So tell me are you convinced yet?

Chelsea boots

Chelsea boots have been back on the streets for a while, but when designers like Saint Laurent and Paul Smith send them down on the Fall 2013 catwalk this classical boot with elastic side panels has made a massive comeback. The Beatles brought the boots back to life in the 1960s already as Sir Paul McCartney was starting the trend and wearing them on a regular basis earning them the nickname Beatles Boots.
Anyway, the Chelsea boot has an exceptionally versatile silhouette which works very well with skinny jeans and various outfits. In fact this boot could be a staple piece in your wardrobe so worth the investment.

Denim dungaree

Either you love it or you don't. However the denim dungaree is back and in the top 10 of the most trendy items of this spring-summer season. As I went to Antwerp on a day trip last week I saw a number of these one-pieces passing me by. Really striking. Anyway, I think it's a great additional piece for your summer wardrobe so embrace your inner child. ;-)  Oh and my personal favorite is the Lee Bib Logger.

French tomboy

It seems Isabel Marant brought a new approach to her here-we-go-again-bohemian look. About time. The fall 2014 collection was given a somewhat mannish makeover with oversized trousers and striped shirts. I like the new tomboyish appeal, what about you?

Mules

Another trend on the radar this spring...mules. I'm not really convinced yet. They are not too flattering on the legs and they seem to visually cut the feet. But hey, apparently this season the designers have updated the mule heel into something that's more modern, sleeker and basically way cooler than the frompy clog pairs back in the 90's. Think vampy. Will you slip into a pair of youthful mules this season?

Normcore

Dressing like a tourist is the new ultimate fashion statement. Heard about normcore yet? Because this new word suddenly appeared into the fashion lexicon. Normcore recalls the early 90's. Instead of looking cool in the latest fashion trends you're now rocking high-waisted non-brand denim, pull over fleeces, white socks or white sneakers, plain cotton tees (remember Fruit of de Loom?) or roll-neck sweaters. Basically, anything that will allow you to stand out by looking anonymous. Beverly Hills 90210 clothes. Normal is the new cool. Is it really? Or is it all just a giant in-joke?

Happy Air Max Day

Wear your Air. Today Nike is celebrating the 27th birthday of their Air Max 1 with a special Air Max Day. The Air Max 1 is one of the most iconic shoes ever designed as they were truly ahead of their time in 1987. They gave comfort and support by placing an encapsulated air unit in the heel of a running shoe which gave athletes a new standard for comfort and support. And as it goes, since a number of fashion seasons this classic model has become a real musthave sneaker as well. Nike released a special pair of Air Max 1 today, go watch them here

Oh and my personal favorite is the Air Max 90 and guess what...I'm wearing them right now. Happy Air Max Day!

Denim jacket

With temperatures (slowly) rising we will be ditching our wintercoats soon and we so have to think about some replacements. Well, it looks as if the denim jacket is working at its revival. No more than logical, as it is a piece that looks great on its own and never goes out of style. A denim jacket will never let you down.
Anyway try to get some outfit inspiration from American author and fashion blogger Leandra Medine. She's stylish and at the same time sooo funny...

Cut off

Spring is in the air so why not cut off your jeans? And I don't mean as short as shorts but just right above the ankle, with raw hems and everything. Garance Dore was a trendsetter back in 2010 already and blogger afterDRK has been doing it for quite a while now. It adds just that certain amount of nonchalance to any pair of skinny jeans. Guess what I did this morning? ;-)
